Legal

Licence, privacy and terms.

Three short sections, in plain words. Where a summary here differs from the licence text, the licence text governs.

The licence, in plain words

Curule’s source is public under the Business Source License 1.1. That is source-available; it is not open source.

Read the licence text

What is free

You may read, build, modify and run it. You may use it for anything that is not production, at any size. And you may use it in production within the Community plan’s limits: one project open at a time, no more than eight agents (seats) in any one mesh, not counting the human operator’s seat, and no more than four agent turns running at once.

What needs a commercial licence

  • Production use beyond those limits. That is what the paid plans are.
  • Moving, changing, disabling or working around the licence-key check.
  • Offering Curule to others as a hosted or managed service, or building it into a product or service you provide to them, where that gives them any substantial part of its features.

If you are not sure whether a use is production, ask: the licence does not define the word. The contact page says where.

The change date

Each version becomes available under the Apache License 2.0 four years after it is published. From then on anyone may use that version under that licence; newer versions keep their own date.

Earlier versions

Everything up to and including commit d03781c336a4081a446e8e9977fe15011bf66479 was published under the MIT licence, and whoever received those versions keeps those rights. The Business Source License applies from the next commit.

What the licence does not cover

The licence gives no right in the Curule name or logo; saying that you use Curule, or that your product works with it, is welcome. Anthropic’s Agent SDK, which the agents run, is Anthropic’s and is under Anthropic’s terms: see the third-party notices.

Privacy

The short version: this website collects nothing, and the software sends nothing to us.

This website

  • It makes no request to any other site: no fonts, scripts, analytics, tag managers, embeds or social buttons. A content security policy in every page tells your browser to refuse them if one were added by mistake.
  • It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
  • It has no analytics of its own, and no way to tell who visited or what they read.
  • Nothing you type here leaves your browser: the pricing calculator works inside the page, and the contact addresses are links to your own mail program, so the site never sees what you write.
  • The pages are static files. Whoever serves them may keep the ordinary request logs that any web server keeps (the address that asked, the page, the time), which this site cannot see or switch off.
  • The links to the documents and to the source code go to GitHub, and are followed only if you click them. GitHub’s own policies apply there.

The software

Curule runs on your own infrastructure and sends nothing to us: no telemetry, no analytics, no update check and no licence server. What leaves your environment is the agents’ calls to the model provider you chose, and whatever the agents themselves fetch. The security page lists it.

Terms

For a paid plan, the terms are a written agreement.

There are no accounts on this site, and nothing is accepted by clicking. A paid plan is bought by email, and the licence key is issued by hand once the terms have been agreed.

The terms of a commercial agreement are written with counsel and agreed with each customer. They are not published on this page.

TODO(owner): say here, or link to, the terms that apply, once counsel has written them. Until then leave this section as it is, or remove it, and do not publish a summary of terms that has not been through counsel.
